is an international contemporary dance festival in urban spaces. It is a free annual cultural project born in Barcelona, which is part of the GREC Festival de Barcelona. During five days buildings, streets, parks and plazas flood with life in this encounter between dance, urban space and community.

DIES DE DANSA takes place in different points of Barcelona, such as the Centre de Cultura Contemporónia de Barcelona (CCCB, Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona), the Fundació Joan Miró, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA, Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona), the Pati Manning and the Picasso Museum; as well as in the cities of Mataró, Sabadell and Sitges. The daylight programme consists on the presentation of short performances that artists elaborate specifically for each place, with the participation of over 25 national and international companies. At night, the festival's meeting point, both for professionals and the general public, is the ESPAI EN MOVIMENT (space in motion) at the Pati de les Dones in CCCB, with solo performances, video projections, bar and chill out.

also programmes TALLERS PER A LA COMUNITAT (workshops for the community), a series of free dance workshops suitable to professionals and amateurs, and the workshops DANSA EN FAMILIA (dance within the family), which throughout experimentation, creativity and research, stimulates the emotional bonds in a fun way.

DIES DE DANSA's aim is to promote and stimulate the link between contemporary dance, urban space and the community through a diverse programme and the organization of workshops. Its purpose is to generate a broad debate on the uses of public space, to reclaim the architectural heritage, to start new professional dance scenes and to enrich local companies through artistic exchange with companies form other cities, regions and countries.

During the festival, DIES DE DANSA becomes a place for artistic creation, a platform for professionals national and international, renowned and up and coming from every dance field. Its relevance makes it, at the same time, a major attraction for the promotion of Catalonia and Spain.

DIES DE DANSA is open to new proposals all over the year. Interested companies must deliver a video (DVD or link) to the association offices. As well as choreographic excellence, originality and connection to the public space will be valued.

The companies should consider that shows take place outdoors and during daylight hours (no linoleum or light equipment included), and that each piece must be short (10-20 minutes). Companies should be aware that, given the massive assistance of audience, visibility of ground work is frankly reduced. At night, the Pati de les Dones in CCCB has a 10mx10m stage at 60cm from the ground, linoleum, light and sound equipment included. The night performances are complementary to the day performances.

The Associació Marató de l'Espectacle team grew conscious about the lack of contact between dance, public space and the community, and in 1992 developed DANSA AL PARC, the first Barcelona festival solely dedicated to dance, which took place in the unique Gaudi's modernist masterpiece Park Güell.

Because of the festival's great success, in 1996 the Associació Marató de l'Espectacle decided to expand the festival on other parts of the city such as the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA, Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona), the Picornell olympic swimming pools and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB, Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona). The festival changed its name to DIES DE DANSA, a festival that puts the city in motion. The different editions were:
